Smash Frenzy 2 - New Worlds -Arkanoid with Childhood Flavor
Now let's look into one of the pioneer video game genres that dates back to the 80-ties and since then has been popular by the gamers of both genders and at any age. I bet, kids of the 80-ties who used to play arkanoids at computer halls and home play stations, must be feeling nostalgia while enjoying the games of this kind nowadays. Arkanoid(breakout) - a game, where the point is to break all the elements of the object at the playfield with a ball by controlling its motion with a pad. Moreover, a player is not to let the ball fall away from the playfield. Funny how the games of this kind seem to preserve their popularity and stay alive for over than 15 years now! So, arkanoid of the XXIst century- what's it like? Released by Dream Dale and Alawar Entertainment in 2006, here comes a sequel to the Smash Frenzy game series, a classical Arkanoid with colorful and bright 3d interface. Just like in other games of this kind,
| In Smash Frenzy 2: New Worlds, the point is to smash the world made out of smaller elements with the ball and not letting the ball reach the bottom of the playfield.
In order to do so, a player needs to aim and hit the ball using the paddle. The only thing that might seem boring at the beginning is that the levels might be getting too long as you are trying to smash few bricks left on the playfield. But as you complete a couple more levels, you'll grasp that in order to aim, you've got to bounce against the ball with your bat, by moving it promptly or making the ball bounce against the side walls. Note that ... | You may also zoom in and change the camera view (or the playfield view) with right mouse click. Smash Frenzy 2: New Worlds delivers a new vision of arkanoid game: now you've got to smash the complicated pictures in 3D, not just dozen rows of multicolored bricks. This game is aimed at getting you feel nostalgic about your childhood: as you play through Smash Frenzy worlds, you see the playground, favorite toys, funny animals and even cute cartoon characters in each episode. While playing Smash Frenzy 2 one has a chance to feel himself/herself a child again.
| In general, the graphics for each tiny world in Smash Frenzy 2 is delivered in "retro" style, that was pretty popular in 80-ties - all the objects are made of bright cubes.
Ditto is about the game sound: the in-game melodies seem to be taken from electronic music, popular at the end of 80-ties. The only drawback of the game is its sound, that might seem a bit annoying while the music is on. The bounces are a bit too loud and sheer; so they distract you. It is to mention a huge number of power-ups bring up diversity into the game-play. Grab all the bonuses and power-ups moving towards the bat. They will do you no harm. | Thus, you will upgrade your bat for bazooka, gun, triple the number of balls, turn your ball into yoyo. By the way, it's a nice feeling - pushing the ball and expecting it is tied to the bat. Yoyo is my favorite sort of weapon!
So, this is the greatest contradiction about Smash Frenzy 2: aside from the extremely dynamic game play (you've got no time to think, you're all concentrated on how to bounce the ball, and smash the whole episode to the very end), you utterly get into the spirit of your childhood. While crashing the new, bright world in 3d and listening to this dynamic electronic music, it's hard to believe you play this game on Pentium, using a small mouse, not a PS joystick on your 8-bit play station that you used to lend from your neighbor some 15 years ago. |
